reusable produce bags

After finding some sheer lightweight fabric on clearance at Joann's, I decided it was high time to make myself some produce bags. I used my drawstring bag directions and made the large bags to be about the same size as the ones at the grocery store. They're about 11 ½” x 18” (I think they're a little too big though). I bought a yard and a half and I was able to make 4 large, 2 medium (8 ½” x 11") and 2 small (6” x 9”). They were easy enough to make but the fabric gave me a bit of a hard time. Folding the top over a couple of times for the drawstring casing was difficult because the fabric was slippery and you couldn't really crease it with an iron. After I gave up on having them look just right, the process went a bit smoother. Next time I think I'll look for something a little less slick.

These are really cute! I have some lightweight linen-ey bags I've been using, but they are too thick for the little bulk bin tags and you can't see through them. I'll have to keep a look out for some good fabric.

Thanks!

These would be great for the farmer's market - if one could find a fabric that was easier to work with, I suppose :)

What a great idea! I saw bags like that in a health food store but never thought of making my own (good thing there are people like you who think outside the box!).

Great idea! I take my own bags to the store for carting my purchases out and usually save the smaller plastic produce bags to use over and over. But I like this idea better! Brilliant!
